TEXT: LUKE 4: 14-21
INTRODUCTION: The Holy Spirit is probably the least understood person of the trinity. Most often than not, He is confused with His manifestations. The Holy Spirit is a person. Being a person, He has feelings which can be expressed. He can be grieved and blasphemed against. Joy and patience are some of His manifestations. He loves, teaches and prays for the children of God.
He is given to us to comfort, help and ensure that we live victoriously in this world against the agents of darkness. Allow Him to fulfil the purpose for which He was given to you. He will do you good.
1)WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Mt. 28:19; Is. 63:10; Eph. 4:30-32; Act. 7:51; Jn.15:26; Rm. 8:26-27
The Holy Spirit the third personality in the Godhead-Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three distinct personalities are one.
2) HIS WORK IN A BELIEVER’S LIFE
a.We are created by the power of the Holy Spirit and granted dominion over His.creation- Gen. 2:7; Job 33:4; Gen. 1:26
b.He gives us the assurance of our sonship – Rm. 8:16; Gal. 4:6
c. Enables us with wisdom and understanding – Exo. 31:2-4; Job 32:7-8
d.By Him we are empowered against the aggression of our enemies – Is. 59:19; Judg.14:6
e.Grants us favour over our peers and contemporaries – Dan. 6:3; Gen. 30:27; Gen. 39:3-4
f. He enables us in Evangelism and the work of God: Act16:7; 17:16,23,34; Act8:29; Jn. 16:13-14; Act10:19;
g. Helps us in our prayers – Rm. 8:26-27; 1Cor. 5:3
h. He comforts us – Jn. 14:26
CONCLUSION: God’s love for us is expressed by the presence of His spirit in our lives, as a divine helper. We have no excuse, therefore to live in failure or under oppression in the hands of our enemies. We are God’s temple, and He is ever ready to help us, by His spirit, that dwells in us. Acknowledge Him always and He will do you good.
